About Our Troop:
Troop 609 is part
of the Boy Scouts of America, Western Los Angeles County Council, Bill
Hart District. We generally have between 20 and 35 scouts. Troop 609
has been around since 1968. Like most scout troops, we use the patrol
method; each scout is part of a patrol of 6 to 10 boys generally of
the same age or rank. There are scouts of all ages involved in the troop.
We participate in a variety of activities through the year, including
backpacking, car camping, family camping, Camporee and others. One recent
event was a visit to Camporee of 2011 (Pictures from our recent adventures/historian page)
The troop attends
summer camp every year. This is a weeklong (Sunday to Saturday) session
at an established scout camp. It's fun an excellent opportunity for
new scouts to earn rank advancements and merit Badges. It's also a great
opportunity for patrols and troop to bond. Summer Camp is a good way
to meet other scouts from other troops and it may be a learning experience
for the parents as well!
