*July 5eve-10 and 5eve-9 Sierra Backpacking

Sierra Backpacking Treks:  One trained leader and one other adult needed per team.  Due to Sierra trail permits being limited in count, we so far have two smaller teams, on different trails.

Requirements:  Sierra trekking requires that you have backpacked before.  These trails are not for first time backpackers.  The trails are more demanding (uphill, thinner air, carrying multiple days of food), but the scenery is magnificent.

One team will trek the Western High Sierra Trail and try to summit Eagle Scout Peak Eve of July 5, trail July 6-10 (older more experienced Scouts due to the heavier load demand and longer mileage/day).

Another team will trek the Eastern Sierra in the Mammoth region (Beck Lake, Minaret Lake, Fern Lake) near Devil's Postpile and Red's Meadow eve of July 5, trail July 6-9.

Usually we drive up the night before the trail entry to car camp acclimate at elevation, although we need to coordinate picking up the trail permits in a night drop box or at the ranger station the morning of the trek.

Note:  We did put in for the Mt. Whitney permit lottery for the oldest Scouts approaching age-out, but didn't win the permit lottery for the dates on our calendar.  We also tried for the Classic Yosemite route for the second team, but could not get enough permits for that route.  (Someday...)
